AUGUSTA, Maine — A homeless Seattle man will serve 20 years in prison in connection with a 1976 Maine killing.
Gary Raub was arrested in 2012 in connection with the stabbing death of 70-year-old Blanche Kimball in her Augusta home. He initially pleaded not guilty, but changed to a guilty plea on Friday and was sentenced for second-degree homicide at Kennebec Superior Court in Augusta.
The case set a record for oldest cold case in Maine history. He was extradited last year.
Raub at one time rented a room from Kimball, but initially denied involvement in her death. His attorneys at one point made a case for an alternative suspect, calling to the stand a man who once mowed Kimball’s lawn.
