A Vancouver man was killed late Friday in a single-car accident on Interstate 5 north of Vancouver, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The WSP reported that Sergey A. Bondarchuk, 18, was driving a 1997 Acura sedan south on I-5 at 11:27 p.m. when he lost control while attempting to change lanes. The car went off the right side of the freeway just north of Northeast 179th Street and struck a tree.

Bondarchuk was declared dead at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, the WSP reported.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
