TriMet increases midday service on bus lines

TriMet will see more midday service starting March 2 on some of its bus lines. The new service will cost about $3 million.

TriMet’s 10 busiest bus lines will run more frequently. For riders, that means shorter waits and transfer times. The new bus schedule means that TriMet’s busiest lines will now serve stops every fifteen minutes on weekdays.

The increase in service comes after the agency eliminated the fareless square in downtown Portland and cut several bus lines two years ago.

Mary Fetsch is with TriMet. She says her agency continues to invest in improving transit service.

“There’s no plan to adjust any of the other lines. We’re focusing on where we can make the investment to impact most of our riders,” Fetsch said.

Fetsch says funding for the new service is from internal savings and additional revenue.

Changes to transit fares will be known when the new budget is released.
