A former college basketball player is coordinating a “Dream Team” camp for youth in Camas.

Larry Jury, of Camas, played for George Fox University, in Newberg, Ore., and Big Bend Community College, in Moses Lake, Wash.

He has also competed in the Cascade Pro-Am Summer Basketball League, in Portland, and he coached a boys basketball team in the Hillsboro, Ore., School District.

The Dream Team camp, for boys and girls, from students in kindergarten to age 18, will be held Saturday, March 15, and Sunday, March 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Liberty Middle School, 1612 N.E. Garfield St.

The cost to attend, $105 per person, includes a box lunch both days.

The camp will include teaching fundamental skills, such as teamwork, respect and discipline.

These skills can be used on and off the court, according to Jury.

“We believe a good player must be well-rounded,” he said. “Our main focus is to encourage young people to understand the importance of fundamentals and practice them year-round, to help better their skills in the game of basketball.”

Defensive and offensive skills will be taught, with a focus on dribbling.

“Each child learns the development of positive attitude and how each self image turns into positive team image,” Jury said.

Stephen Curry, a guard with the Golden State Warriors, is expected to make a guest appearance.

Jury’s son Jalen, a junior at California Baptist University, will be a coach at the camp.
