The annual State of Clark County address is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Clark County Square Dance Center, 10713 N.E. 117th Ave., Vancouver.

Commissioner Tom Mielke, the board chairman, will provide a speech. Other speakers will include commissioners David Madore and Steve Stuart. The State of Clark County is intended as a retrospective on the previous year and a look ahead for the county.

It’s also a fundraiser for emergency food banks. Donations will help supply the Clark County Food Bank, which has distributed more than 121,000 emergency food boxes in a recent 12-month period.

People attending the 2012 and 2013 State of the County events donated approximately 1,000 pounds of food each year, and the Board of County Commissioners hopes to surpass that amount this year.

Requested items include nonperishable food such as peanut butter, pasta, rice, tuna and canned fruit and vegetables. Families who receive the food boxes also can use pet supplies, school supplies, household cleaning supplies and reusable grocery bags. Financial contributions also are appreciated.
