Portland St survives OT, beating Idaho St. 78-74

Vikings earn No. 5 seed for Big Sky Tournament

PORTLAND — Kyle Richardson scored 28 points and grabbed 14 boards in leading Portland State to a 78-74 overtime victory over Idaho State in a regular-season finale Saturday night.

Portland State (16-13, 11-9 Big Sky) jumped to a 33-27 lead over Idaho State (11-18, 8-12) in the final minutes of the first half, but the Bengals rebounded and led 65-63 before the Vikings’ Richardson scored inside to tie the score at 65 and send the game to OT.

Richardson’s heroics continued in the extra period, scoring eight of PSU’s 10 points leading into the final 52 seconds before the Vikings added three free throws en route to the buzzer.

Hall added 19 points and eight rebounds for the Vikings, who shot 47 percent to the Bengals’ 44 percent.

Tomas Sanchez netted 22 points for ISU.

PSU heads into the conference tournament as the No. 5 seed. ISU did not qualify.
