Rolling Stone magazine touted “The Winding Stream,” a documentary by Vancouver director Beth Harrington, as one of the best music movies at the 2014 South By Southwest festival.
The documentary will officially premiere Saturday at the Austin, Texas festival, which continues through Sunday.
The film is a history of the Carter Family and how it merged with Johnny Cash and his family to become royalty within the country music world. It includes several interviews with members of both families, including one with Johnny Cash weeks before he died in 2003.
According to Rolling Stone online: “Documentarian (and one-time member of Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers) Beth Harrington digs deep into both the family’s legacy and the first-couple-of-country union of June Carter and Johnny Cash, and how the music of the Carter-Cash connection continues to influence contemporary musicians.”
