Ellsworth Springs — Virgil Olson celebrated his 90th birthday last month with friends and family who came to honor him and his long life. His granddaughter Kami Lowry was one of the well-wishers and she said the World War II veteran, who served with the Navy’s Medical Corps in both the Pacific and the China-Burma-India theaters, has lived “a long and colorful life.” She put together a CD with more than 30 audio messages from family who couldn’t make it to the Feb. 22 birthday party at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ellsworth Springs. “It is quite a tearjerker if you listen to them and all the people he has helped and who admire him and love him,” she said about the recordings.
