Ridgefield — Birkenstock Northwest continues to be a drop-off location for people to donate shoes for those in need, collecting more than a thousand pairs in the three months after its owner heard about a local girl's efforts to do the same.

Birkenstock Northwest owner Brian Haberman reached out to 8-year-old Teagan and her mom, Ashley Carper, in January after reading in The Columbian about the girl's big dream of collecting 25,000 shoes for the nonprofit Soles4Souls.

That goal is still far off, but shoes continue to be dropped off at Birkenstock.

Churches, Boy Scout troops and other organizations have made donations, as did an Air Force soldier who recently drove from Spokane with a carload of shoes he'd gathered.
