Letter: Lack of leadership failed project

Regarding Mayor Tim Leavitt's Columbia River Crossing travesty comment, I enjoy riding MAX. When I travel by air, I take C-Tran to Delta Park and take MAX to the airport. My wife and I have done this for years. I would vote to bring light rail to downtown Vancouver. That said, I would be outvoted on light rail and I would respect the process and the result.

The real travesty of CRC begins with Oregon's "no light rail, no bridge" marker. A little flexibility (C-Tran buses) and a little honesty about tolls may have produced a different result. We will never know.

The mayor, Oregon House Speaker Tina Kotek and Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber are the ones who failed to seek compromise. The travesty is the lack of leadership, not the lack of a bridge.
