Women rule at German-style Karneval at Evergreen High School

Evergreen High School — What we call Mardi Gras is known in many Catholic countries as Karneval, the last hurrah before settling down into Lent, the time of fasting and self-discipline in the run-up to Easter. Karneval has long meant the common people mocking their leaders and otherwise turning the status quo upside-down. The German program at Evergreen High School celebrated Karneval in traditional style by handing power over to the girls and women. "They can run things as they see fit, cutting men's ties and kissing them," German teacher Molly MacGregor said.
