Deanna Kathumbi-Jackson feels better about letting her young sons play tackle football.

Kathumbi-Jackson was one of 176 mothers who attended a youth football safety clinic hosted by the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday.

The purpose was to educate mothers on concussion symptoms as the NFL seeks to keep the sport growing amid lawsuits brought by former players during the last few years.

The cynic would say this is a public-relations ploy be the NFL amid growing criticism over the safety of football.

But the effort should be applauded nevertheless.

Did anyone notice Eastern Michigan’s CIT Tournament victory Tuesday over Norfolk State?

Unlikely. Fewer than 400 people showed up to watch the program’s first postseason victory in 18 years. That didn’t sit well with Glenn Bryant, a senior on the team.

He tweeted “We FORSURE got the top 5 worst support in the NCAA, it’s almost 30,000 students go to this school smh, y’all at ALL the parties tho.”

Bryant isn’t wrong for calling out apathetic EMU students. But fan indifference is hardly surprising with glut of lower-tier postseason tournaments in college basketball.
