MAX tunnel driver arrested for DUI

Mishap stops light rail trains

On Wednesday March 19, 2014, at 5:09 a.m., Central Precinct and Transit Police Division officers responded to the TriMet MAX tunnel, West of the Goose Hollow Transit Station, on the report that someone drove a vehic le into the tunnel on the MAX tracks.

Officers arrived and located the vehicle, a 1999 Hyundai four-door, and the driver who was not injured.

The driver, 28-year-old James Edmund Dejarnette, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) and Reckless Driving. He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and will be arraigned on Thursday.

The vehicle was towed but delayed MAX Red and Blue line service for quite some time.
