Letter: Library keeps up with users’ needs

I read the March 4 article “Library system expands online offerings: Embracing technology of entertainment world part of library mission.” It was good to see that the local district realizes that the day of the brick-and-mortar library and providing traditional services must change. I have used their new online service to read magazines in my home, research information that is more detailed than using a search engine service, and for other information that helps me better research issues.

This service and others provided by the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District help me to support them when they ask for an increase in their tax base. As Melinda Chesbro, the district’s collection and technical services director, said in the article, “As a library we want you to have a more well-rounded life and I think entertainment is part of that.” And I would add being able to read magazines and newspapers from all over the world from your home is part of that service.
