Letter: Retribution can backfire

The Columbian
Published: March 24, 2014, 5:00pm

Clark County Commissioners David Madore and Tom Mielke have pulled the public notices from The Columbian. It’s payback time. Punish The Columbian for its First Amendment right to report the truth. The truth in this case was the Don Benton hiring scandal. Madore and Mielke merely had to say “we shouldn’t have done that” (hire Benton in that manner) and the whole thing would vanish. But instead, Madore and Mielke continue to gloss over the issue.

These are smart guys. Let’s see if the public is smart enough at election time to realize that a duplicitous, get-even type of character is not appropriate for public office.
