Some fundamentalist ministers feel they have a special dispensation for interpreting the Bible. They use selected Scripture from the pulpit to preach racial injustice, discourage immigration reform and promote bigotry and hate toward the gay community. This is a learned behavior.
Teaching parishioners to behave in this manner is self-serving. My Bible says treat one another as you would want to be treated. Its says love thy neighbor not judge thy neighbor. It says feed the hungry, take care of the sick, the poor and the disenfranchised.
Taking and teaching Scripture out of context is not an educated or healthy way for Christians to live and behave. I’m not sure what Scripture these churches use to justify being judge and jury, issuing out sentences to fit their own needs. I would be hard-pressed to find someone who has been directly harmed by someone different than themselves.
Please ask yourselves what is the true mission of a Christian?
