Showers continued Wednesday and some of them were frog stranglers for sure. Other areas around the county escaped the heavy downpours. I surpassed 5 inches of rain for the month here in Salmon Creek on my way for over 6 inches, which will be guaranteed by a strong storm Friday with predicted amounts of 1-2 inches in various locations.
Seattle was just a few hundredths of an inch below the 8-inch mark as of 5 p.m. Wednesday. It will easily break the March rainfall record set in 1950 with 8.40 inches. So far it is Seattle’s third-wettest March on record.
As I mentioned here earlier this week the heavy moisture moving in on Friday appears to remain south of the landslide area in Snohomish County near Oso. Southern Washington and Oregon will get the lion’s share. At least I am keeping my fingers crossed that the moisture field doesn’t migrate further north. However, even lighter amounts of rain add to the soil moisture content and hamper recovery conditions.
The outlook after the storm Friday is for showery and cool conditions into early next week. Snow levels with the storm will be high but elevations above 5,000 or 6,000 feet could get upward of 2 feet of snow. Good news there.
