Ellie Walker of Columbia River girls track and field was voted The Columbian’s high school spring sports athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending April 26.

Walker collected 50 percent of the 1,086 votes cast by fans to beat out Taylor Ellensohn of Hockinson baseball, who had 43 percent.

Walker won the high jump and 300 hurdles and placed second in the 100 hurdles at the Elden Keller Invitational in Hillsboro, Ore.

The other nominees were MacKenzie Alamillo of Battle Ground golf, Melissa Henry of Evergreen softball and Bailey King of Union boys track and field.

Nominees and the online ballot are posted at www.360preps.com each Monday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Athletes may be elected player of the week once during the regular season, and no athlete can be nominated for the honor in consecutive weeks.
