Vancouver Victory FC lived up to its name on Sunday, posting a 4-0 win over Westsound FC in Vancouver’s inaugural Evergreen Premier League home soccer match.

Borce Atanasov and Jerson Meija scored first-half goals and Mirza Ramic and Jesse Deleon scored in the second half to carry Victory FC to the win at McKenzie Stadium.

“I’m proud of the kids,” Vancouver coach Biniam Afenegus said, noting that the team is still building fitness.

Atanasov opened the scoring area about 18 minutes into the match by beating a defender out wide and dribbling into the penalty.

Later in the first half, Meija placed a 24-yard shot into the upper corner.

“I think we dominated possession,” Afenegus said.

The win improved the Victory to 1-1 in EPL play. Sunday’s match was the home debut for Vancouver’s entry in the new men’s semi-professional league with eight Washington teams. A crowd announced at 430 watched the match.

Victory FC plays next on May 11 at Seattle Stars FC. The next home match is on May 17.

Afenegus noted that the Victory had four starters Sunday who weren’t with the team for the opener at Bellingham. More players are expected to arrive this week, he said.
