Lacrosse roundup: King’s Way pounds Camas for lead

Knights move atop division with 14-3 win

Three players scored three goals apiece as King’s Way moved into first place in its division with a 14-3 win over visiting Camas on April 30.

Evan Ramirez, Brian Prigmore and Michael Johnson each scored three times for the Knights. Prigmore also collected a game-high 10 ground balls and assisted on two goals. Ramirez had four assists.

Nick Ankeny and Nathan Swift each scored two goals and Isaiah Pratt also had a goal for King’s Way.

For Camas, Chad Menor had two goals and an assist. Austin Garwood had a goal and fielded eight ground balls.

At 6-1, King’s Way now tops the Central-South Division of the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association, one game ahead of 5-2 Camas. King’s Way is 9-4 overall and has won six consecutive matches.

The win over Camas was the first of three victories in three days for King’s Way, which posted a 8-6 non league win over Tualatin, Ore., on Thursday then won 16-11 on Friday over Southridge in Kennewick.

In Friday’s win, Prigmore had four goals and three assists. Scoring twice were Pratt, Nathan Swift, Ankeny, Johnson and Josh Emmy.

King’s Way hosts Central Catholic of Portland at 7:30 Wednesday in a non-league match, then wraps up conference play on Saturday by visiting Richland.

Camas plays Union at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Shahala Middle School to close out the league schedule for both clubs.

Camas 13, Richland 4 — On Friday, Camas defeated visiting Richland 13-4. Austin Garwood had four goals, two assist and 13 ground balls to lead the way. Bradley Stanchfield added three goals and two assists, and Matt Welinski and Chad Menor each scored twice.

Union 14, Richland 3 — On Saturday, Ben Morasch had six goals and two assists to lead Union to a league victory. Trey Chambers had three goals and four assists and Gunnar Drell betted two goals.

Jack Lamey collected 16 ground balls for Union, which at 3-4 is tied for third place in the Central-South Division with Southridge of Kennewick.

Evergreen girls make state playoffs

The Evergreen Lacrosse Club clinched a state playoff berth for the third year in a row by winning 8-5 on April 30 at Graham-Kapowsin.

The Black Cats (6-6, 4-2 in the Nisqually Conference) will likely open the playoffs on Friday or Saturday. They are waiting for other teams to complete the regular season.

Evergreen had to win at Graham-Kapowsin last Wednesday to qualify for the playoffs, and did so despite playing down a player for the entire second half because of yellow card accumulation.

Maddie McKinnon scored three goals and Alyssa Mehan had two goals and an assist.

On Friday, ELC lost 11-10 at Kennedy Catholic in SeaTac. McKinnon had five goals and one assist, and Mehan three goals and two assists. Evergreen led in the second half of the back-and-forth match.
