Camas — A $2,000 grant from the Georgia Pacific Foundation to the Parks Foundation of Clark County will help with the construction of a nature observation deck along the Washougal River Greenway Park overlooking Washougal Pond in Camas.

Camas Parks and Recreation director Jerry Acheson said the deck will be a “first-of-its-kind feature that will expand upon current trail use and protect the environment by providing a dedicated space to observe wildlife, enjoy the views, picnic, and simply relax and enjoy the environment.”

In December, the Parks Foundation received an individual donor’s $15,000 gift for the project, which will bring a significant improvement to the Lacamas Heritage Trail that starts at the north edge of Camas and connects with William Clark Park and the Steigerwald Lake Wildlife Refuge at the east edge of Washougal. Construction is expected to begin this fall.
