Letter: Represent without grandstanding

U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, is at it again, grandstanding instead of making decisions and taking action.

Lately, she has sent out brochures and held panel discussions using taxpayer’s monies to more or less credit herself while suggesting that she is doing something for those who voted for her.

She presents a significant issue, such as human trafficking, as “the world’s fastest-growing form of organized crime.” Is this important issue getting her legislative action, is she doing something about this problem? The answer is “no,” as well as the other issues she uses to grandstand, drawing attention more to herself than the actual issue.

We need lawmakers who actually perform and act upon significant problems using good decision-making rather than seeking issues that will help Herrera Beutler get free advertising for re-election.

Republican Herrera Beutler is one of the lawmakers who opposed the Columbia River Crossing and allowed millions of taxpayers’ hard-earned revenues to be wasted. She killed the CRC without seeking workable alternatives. And, for what purpose? She drew attention to herself rather than resolution.

Elect sound legislators who have the leadership skills to represent the people rather than just representing themselves.
