Letter: Facade is only to save face

The Columbian
Published: May 9, 2014, 5:00pm

The May 3 Cheers & Jeers editorial praises GOP Rep. Liz Pike, R-Camas, and Sen. Ann Rivers, R-La Center, “for trying to jump-start discussions for a replacement Interstate 5 bridge over the Columbia River.” This reminds me of the old joke about the defendant who begs for mercy after killing his parents. When the judge asks why mercy is warranted the defendant replies, I’m an orphan.

After undermining years of hard work and wasting hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars, you may think these representatives are serious about building a new bridge. I say don’t hold your breath.
