SEATTLE — Southbound Interstate 5 traffic through downtown Seattle backed up for miles for more than three hours Monday morning after a dump truck overturned, spilled its load and caught fire.

The Washington State Patrol says the driver responsible for the crash left the scene.

Trooper Chris Webb says a Volvo veered into the path of the truck about 8:30 a.m. The truck had to take evasive action to avoid hitting two motorcycles and overturned. Spilled fuel burned until the fire department put it out.

Dirt and gravel blocked southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the Interstate 90 interchange and also blocked access to eastbound Interstate 90 until noon.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries to his arm and shoulder.
