Prep soccer: Berg’s third goal lifts Mountain View over Wilson, into state

Jared Berg’s third goal of the match inside of five minutes to play lifted the Mountain View boys soccer team to a 4-3 win over Wilson of Tacoma and into the 3A state tournament as a fourth seed.

After Wilson scored 10 minutes into the match, Mountain View adjusted and put in three goals for a 3-1 halftime lead.

Berg scored twice and David Warne scored on the first of two assists by Will Warne.

Wilson came back with two quick goals and tied the match at 3-3, 20 minutes into the second half.

Berg’s winner was scored on a tap-in as the Wilson goalkeeper could only get a foot on an initial Mountain View shot. Berg was in front to finish.

“We knew they would be physical in the second half, and we just had to match their intensity,” Mountain View coach Jeff Brooks said of the Wilson squad.
