Prep soccer: Berg’s third goal lifts Mountain View over Wilson, into state

Jared Berg’s third goal of the match inside of five minutes to play lifted the Mountain View boys soccer team to a 4-3 win over Wilson of Tacoma and into the 3A state tournament as a fourth seed.

After Wilson scored 10 minutes into the match, Mountain View adjusted and put in three goals for a 3-1 halftime lead.

Berg scored twice and David Warne scored on the first of two assists by Will Warne.

Wilson came back with two quick goals and tied the match at 3-3, 20 minutes into the second half.

Berg’s winner was scored on a tap-in as the Wilson goalkeeper could only get a foot on an initial Mountain View shot. Berg was in front to finish.

“We knew they would be physical in the second half, and we just had to match their intensity,” Mountain View coach Jeff Brooks said of the Wilson squad.

Mountain View will open state Tuesday or Wednesday at Mercer Island.

3A bi-district: Kennedy 3, Columbia River 0 — The Chieftains fell in the championship game of the 3A bi-district playoffs and will advance to state as the No. 2 seed.

Columbia River will face Shorecrest on Wednesday at Kiggins Bowl to open state.

No other details from Saturday’s game were reported.

4A bi-district: Kentwood 1, Skyview 0, OT — The Storm lost in the 4A bi-district title game in overtime and will go to state as the No. 2 seed.

Skyview will face Wenatchee on Wednesday at Kiggins Bowl to open state. No other details were reported.

4A bi-district: Camas 2, Federal Way 0 — The Papermakers clinched their 16th consecutive trip to the state playoffs with a win Saturday.

Camas will advance to the 4A state playoffs as the No. 7 seed. The Papermakers will travel to play Moses Lake on Tuesday or Wednesday.

No other details from Saturday’s game were reported.

1A district: Hoquiam 2, Seton Catholic 1 — Hoquiam scored the winning goal with six minutes to play and won the district title.

Seton Catholic’s Jimmy McGilley scored off an assist from John Polen in the first half.

Seton Catholic will travel to play Bellevue Christian in the 1A state tournament Tuesday or Wednesday.

1A district: White Salmon 6, La Center 2 — The Wildcats’ season ended with a loss in Kalama. No other details were reported.
