ABERDEEN, S.D. — A Battle Ground man and his 6-month-old daughter were among three people who died Friday as the result of a traffic crash in South Dakota.

Michael A. Muonio, 24, of Battle Ground died on the scene, said Rick Olauson, a trooper with the South Dakota Highway Patrol. He said Muonio was the driver of an eastbound Honda Civic that crossed into the westbound lane and crashed into an oncoming pickup.

Muonio’s infant daughter, Rula L. Muonio, and Lorissa Bellikka, 19, of Aberdeen, S.D., both survived the crash, but died later at hospitals, Olauson said.

The child’s mother, RyAnn L. Muonio, 21, of Battle Ground suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries, Olauson said. She was reported in serious condition Saturday at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Kasper Unser, 66, of Ipswich, S.D., was driving the other vehicle, a Ford F-150 pickup. He sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries, Olauson said. He was traveling alone.

The accident, which occurred about nine miles west of Bowdle, S.D. on U.S. Highway 12, was reported by witnesses about 6:30 p.m.

Olauson said the accident is still under investigation, but he said it appears it was a near head-on collision.
