Three 3A GSHL teams off to state softball

Prairie, Columbia River, Mountain View clinch berths

The Class 3A Greater St. Helens League is turning the bi-district softball tournament into its own private party.

All three 3A GSHL teams — Prairie, Mountain View and Columbia River — advanced to the semifinals on Sunday. Mountain View and Columbia River won two games each, and Prairie won its lone game to reach the semifinals. Mountain View will face Columbia River at 11 a.m. Sunday in one semifinal in Tacoma. Prairie will meet Enumclaw in the other.

Nicole O’Haver went 3 for 4 with a double and RBI as the Falcons beat Bonney Lake 5-2 in a quarterfinal game to clinch a berth to state.

Prairie advances to a bi-district semifinal at 11 a.m. today against Enumclaw at Sprinker Fields in Tacoma.

Mountain View had two seven-run innings and racked up 16 hits in the slugfest to open play at Tacoma with a 19-12 win over Auburn Mountainview.

Colleen Driscoll, Jessica Alcomendas, Bailey Gaspar and Kimi Reed combined to knock in 14 of the runs. Driscoll and Gaspar each hit home runs.

In the quarterfinals, the Thunder beat Timberline 4-1, handing the Blazers their first loss and clinching spot to state.

A three-run first inning gave Mountain View all the advantage it needed.

Maggie Harshaw went 4 for 4 with a double and triple as Columbia River beat Shelton 10-6 in the first round. Izzy Parkin went 2 for 5 with a home run as River beat Kennedy 7-4 in the quarterfinals.

4A bi-district tournament — Camas won two games Saturday in Kent to clinch a berth in the 4A state tournament.

Tori O’Neill led off the game for Camas with a home run, then Rio Smith drove home McKinley Johnson in the bottom of the seventh to send the Papermakers to 2-1 win over Graham-Kapowsin in the first round. Johnson and Lana Richards hit home runs as Camas beat South Kitsap 4-1 in the quarterfinals. The Papermakers will face Puyallup at 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the semifinals.

Battle Ground held Puyallup hitless until a home run in the seventh gave Puyallup a 1-0 win in the first round. Battle Ground beat Thomas Jefferson 3-0 in the consolation round.

Battle Ground faces Gig Harbor in a loser-out game at 9 a.m. Sunday. If the Tigers gets past the Tides, they will play two games to win one and clinch a state berth.

Union lost 7-2 to Emerald Ridge and 11-9 to Yelm and was eliminated from the bi-district tournament. Mo Spieth hit two home runs in the loss to Yelm.

1A district — Woodland eliminated La Center 6-0 and clinched a return trip to the 1A state tournament.

Kendall Grell doubled home Gracey Trice from first in the seventh inning to lift Woodland to a 6-5 win over Hoquiam to place third at district. No other details were reported.
