Dollars Corner — The Hoyt family from Dollars Corner won the WasteBusters competition by reducing their waste by more than 60 percent.

The third-annual Clark County Environmental Services-sponsored competition awarded Alyssa and Garrett Hoyt and their five kids the honor this month.

The Hoyts, using tips they learned from Columbia Springs’ Master Composter/Recycler Program and Washington State University Clark County Extension’s Small Acreage Program, cut their garbage from 24.25 pounds to 9.6 pounds in six weeks.

“Knowing I would be doing an inventory of everything that went in our trash can, I evaluated the items I bought with the end waste in mind,” Alyssa said in a press release.
