Members of the board of directors of Vancouver Public Schools have been invited to attend the Design II Facilities Planning Symposium at 10 a.m. today at the Bates Center for Educational Leadership, 2921 Falk Road. No formal action will take place.

The district’s last construction bond project was completed in 2006. A number of schools, including Truman, Ogden and King elementary schools, were not upgraded at all.

During the first half of this school year, the district will do a facilities needs assessment, and looking at the age and condition of all the facilities including mechanical parts, such as HVAC. Then it will develop a prioritized facilities projects list to bring to the school board for potential consideration, said Tom Hagley, district spokesman.

“We’re hoping to have a list by late spring for the board to review,” Hagley said. “It’s a lengthy, complex process.”
