Day-use fees at public recreation sites in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest will be waived this weekend in honor of Veterans Day, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

The fee waiver will generally apply at day-use areas such as picnic grounds and developed trailheads. Sites operated by private entities may or may not be included in the waiver depending on whether the permit holder decides to participate, according to the forest service. The waiver won’t affect the Johnston Ridge Observatory near Mount St. Helens, which has already closed for the season.

The fee waiver applies from Saturday, Nov. 8, through Tuesday, Nov. 11, and includes national forests across the country. Visitors can search online through www.recreation.gov to see which destinations charge a fee.

Several state and federal agencies offer similar fee waivers for Veterans Day and other holidays. Washington State Parks won’t require a Discover Pass for any visitors on Tuesday. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to waive fees for veterans, service members and their families at its recreation sites on Tuesday.
