Prep roundup: Prairie soccer still alive after 3-0 win

Falcons will play for state berth on Saturday

The Prairie Falcons survived their second elimination soccer match of the week.

Win one more and they will make the Class 3A state tournament.

Prairie, playing with the wind at its back in the second half during a nasty windstorm, scored three second-half goals to beat Capital of Olympia 3-0 in the survivor bracket of the 3A bi-district soccer tournament.

Prairie will play at 2 p.m. Saturday at Highline Memorial Stadium in a winner-to-state, loser-out match.

Aimee Kurfurst scored the first goal of the match, then Kali Brundage added two insurance goals for the Falcons.

Megan Sawyer had four saves in the shutout.

Girls soccer

King’s Way Christian 1, Montesano 0 (PKs) — Kate Roseborough, Heidi Fronk, Meleah Kainu, Maddie Veltkamp converted penalty kick shots as the Knights won the PK shootout 4-3 to advance to the 1A district title game.

The game was tied 0-0 after regulation.

King’s Way Christian has clinched a berth to the 1A state tournament. The Knights will play Eatonville for the district title at 2 p.m. Saturday in Kalama.

Eatonville 2, La Center 1 OT — The Wildcats lost in a 1A district semifinal on an overtime goal.

La Center will face Montesano at noon Saturday in Kalama for the No. 3 seed to state. The Wildcats are already assured a berth to next week’s state tournament. Katlyn Bigley scored La Center’s lone goal.=

Volleyball

Battle Ground 3, Skyview 0 — Brooke Van Sickle led Battle Ground with 12 kills and also had 12 assists against Skyview in the 4A district tournament 25-18, 25-10, 26-24. Hallie Wyles added 11 kills. Ashley Watkins had 18 assists and five kills for the Tigers.

As the No. 1 seed, Battle Ground will host the final day of the tournament on Saturday. The championship match is at 3 p.m.

Also at that time, in the east gym at BGHS, Skyview and Heritage will play in an elimination match. The winner of that match will take on the loser of the district championship match for the No. 2 seed.

Camas 3, Heritage 0 — Lauren Harris had 14 kills to pace the Papermakers against Heritage in a 25-19, 25-16, 25-13 win. Christina Elliott had 30 assists and 14 digs.

Battle Ground and Camas tied for the league championship as the teams split their two regular-season meetings.

Battle Ground beat Camas last weekend for the top seed to this week’s district tournament.

Woodland 3, Black Hills 0 — The Beavers advanced to Saturday’s winner-to-state match with the win over Black Hills. Scores were 25-14, 25-21, 25-14.

The Beavers will play Tumwater at 11 a.m. Saturday in a district semifinal at R.A. Long High School in Longview. If the Beavers win, they would play for the district title at 3 p.m. against Ridgefield or R.A. Long.

Ridgefield 3, W.F. West 0 — Bella Gama had 22 assists and 12 digs and Sarena Bartley had 11 kills and five blocks to lead Ridgefield to a 25-23, 25-11, 25-15 victory in the first round of the 2A district tournament.

The Spudders will face R.A. Long on Saturday at Mark Morris in the district semifinal, which will determine a state berth.
