Greetings! There is much on the plate to talk about so let’s digest some weather news. We had a rather gloomy day Wednesday, but hey, for the most part it was dry except for a few spatters here and there.

Today a small but vigorous low swings northward and brings a shot of rain and wind to Southwest Washington. Winds along the coast could be in the 50-60 mph range — nothing out of the ordinary — and 25-35 here locally. Typical November breezes.

High pressure builds Friday and over the weekend for dry weather. Skies will clear and if the fog stays at bay lows could dip into the 30s in many outlying areas. No worry for frost in the inner city of Vancouver quite yet.

As we approach the beginning of the winter season, the National Weather Service in Portland will share winter weather tips as part of the annual Winter Weather Awareness Campaign, Nov. 9-15, to help educate the public about winter weather hazards. An arctic air mass will plunge south from Canada by Monday into the central U.S. and bring cold and snow across much of the nation. This will be much colder than the last bout several days ago.

Big storm brewing west of Alaska. Typhoon Nuri is heading northward. It will lose it tropical development today but as it enters into the Bering Sea, it will rapidly intensify into a very powerful low-pressure system — perhaps the strongest ever observed in the Pacific Ocean.
