Families planning to cut their own Christmas tree from the Gifford Pinchot National Forest will be able to buy cutting permits starting Wednesday, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Tree-cutting permits, which are valid for one-time use only, will sell for $5 each. There is a limit of five permits per household, according to the forest service.
Officials cautioned visitors to be prepared for winter conditions when venturing into the forest for a Christmas tree.
People purchasing a permit will receive a map of cutting areas and an information sheet with instructions, according to the forest service.
