Columbia River volleyball clinches berth to 3A state

Prairie needs 3 wins today for state spot

Columbia River clinched a berth to the 3A state volleyball tournament by reaching the semifinals of the 3A bi-district tournament on Friday at Auburn Mountainview.

Fellow 3A GSHL team Prairie has some work to do.

The Falcons lost in the quarterfinal round Friday and needs three victories today to place fifth and earn the state berth.

The Chieftains reached the bi-district semifinals by defeating Enumclaw in four games. Scores were 25-13, 27-29, 25-22, 25-16.

They started the tournament with a 3-0 win over Bonney Lake (25-17, 25-21, 25-22).

Columbia River plays Capital at noon today. Win or lose, the Chieftains play at 3:30 p.m. for either the tournament title or third place. North Thurston and Auburn Riverside play the other semifinal.

Prairie’s day started with a 3-0 win over Shelton (25-20, 25-18, 25-12).

The Falcons were then beat by Auburn Riverside in three games (25-18, 25-20, 25-16).

Next for Prairie is a loser-out game against Lincoln at 10 a.m. Win that and Prairie gets the winner of Bonney Lake vs. Kennedy at 1 p.m. And then win that and the Falcons play for fifth place at 4 p.m.
