College Notebook: EWU’s Black named All-Big Sky again

Eastern Washington senior forward Cassie Black was named Second Team All-Big Sky Conference, her second career selection.

The Battle Ground High School graduate was also a Second Team selection in the NCAA Division I conference as a sophomore.

The Eagles’ season ended Thursday in the conference tournament quarterfinals with a 3-2 loss to Northern Arizona. EWU finished 8-9 overall.

Women’s soccer

Haden named All-GNAC Second Team

Western Washington junior goalkeeper Ashley Haden was named Second Team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

It is the first All-GNAC selection for the Hockinson High School graduate, in her first season as the Vikings’ primary netminder.

WWU (16-1-3) finished second in the conference tournament over the weekend, falling in the title game to Seattle Pacific in a shootout. Despite that loss, the Vikings are the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II West Regional. After a bye in the opening round, WWU will face Cal State Stanislaus or Seattle Pacific on Saturday in Bellingham.

CACC honors Oliver of Georgian Court

Georgian Court University sophomore setter Kelsey Oliver was named to the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Second Team.

The Skyview High School graduate led the CACC with 1,150 assists and was second with 9.83 assists per set. She led the NCAA Division II Lions with nine double-doubles, and had 50 or more assists in six matches, with a high of 53.

Conference champion GCU, located in Lakewood, N.J., is hosting the CACC tournament this week.

Men’s soccer

CCC honors Zhividze

Concordia University senior Timur Zhividze was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 26 through Nov. 1, his fourth weekly conference honor.

The Evergreen High School graduate had three goals and two assists during the week as the Cavaliers clinched the CCC regular season title and the top seed in this week’s conference tournament.

Women’s volleyball

GNAC weekly honor for NNU’s VanValey

Northwest Nazarene junior right side hitter Taylor VanValey was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 27 through Nov. 2.

The Hockinson High School graduate had 17 kills and 11 blocks in wins over Western Washington and Simon Fraser.

The Crusaders (23-2, 16-1 GNAC) wrapped up the conference championship with a Saturday win over Seattle Pacific.

Cross country

GNAC academic stars

Four cross country runners from Clark County were named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Stars.

Honorees must be in at least their second year of competition at their current school and hold a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20.

The list includes Taylor Guenther, a Western Washington University junior with a 3.84 GPA in multidisciplinary studies. Guenther also placed 10th in the GNAC Championships held Nov. 1 in Monmouth, Ore. to earn all-conference honors. She ran the 6-kilometer (3.7-mile) course in 21 minutes, 3 seconds. Camas High School graduate Austen Reiter placed 13th.

• Lynelle Decker, Seattle Pacific junior (applied human biology, 3.28).

• Will Jones, Columbia River, WWU junior (financial economics, 3.34).
