I-594 opponents to bring their guns to Olympia

SEATTLE — Opponents of the gun background check initiative say they will bring their firearms to Olympia next month.

They say they want to test their understanding of Initiative 594, which was approved by voters and is scheduled to take effect Dec. 4.

The Seattle Times reports opponents of I-594 believe it is so strict it would criminalize law-abiding gun owners who hand each other firearms, like they might do at a gun-safety course.

They are going to test the measure on Dec. 13 at the state Capitol by bringing their firearms to Olympia and handing them to each other.

I-595 will expand background checks to private sales and transfers, such as online sales and gun shows.
