Letter: More data is reasonable appeal

In regards to the GMO label debate it is unfortunate that the proponents were labeled “backyard chicken owners” and “vegan foodies.” I think it’s important to consider that these labels are meant to inform the public of what is in their food. In a country where freedom of choice is the motto then shouldn’t people be given the information to make that choice? If cost is the issue to the farmer then the consumer who is demanding the choice should incur it accordingly. Is that not the way of capitalism? I demand something and you provide it at a price that is reasonable to all parties involved from the producer to the consumer.

I really do not see what the fuss is about. McDonald’s lets its customer know that the Big Mac has approximately 530 calories and that has not scared everyone away.
