Letter: Address local issue on federal level

Why isn’t Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, addressing the issue of marijuana legalization and regulation at the federal level? Herrera Beutler is our elected official to represent our views and vote as we direct as a populace.

In the past two years, I have written to Herrera Beutler to ask her to support:

1) Rescheduling of marijuana from a Schedule 1 to a lower scheduling so it can be studied to find out the beneficial properties of cannabis through research.

2) Becoming a co-sponsor along with the representatives from other legal states for further relaxation of current laws at the federal level.

Every time I have written I get a form letter talking about state Initiative 502 that has nothing to do with support at the federal level.

I called her Vancouver office in October to try to get an official response to her stance on these issues before I voted. I was told the office personnel would check and let me know. I did not get a response, which is typical so I called the office back. Subsequently, I received the same form email I have received each time I have contacted her. It seems to me that not only is Herrera Beutler ignoring her constituents, but she has her own agenda that she is not willing to express.
