It’s official. Garrett Grayson is a legitimate contender for the Heisman Trophy.

Grayson, a Heritage High School graduate, was notified in writing by The Heisman Trophy Trust that he is considered a “legitimate contender for the Heisman Trophy.”

While The Heisman Trophy Trust does not specifically endorse any college football player for the Heisman Memorial Trophy, the correspondence received by Grayson and Colorado State Athletics allows for his inclusion among the “aspirants” pages on the Heisman.com website. The pages are maintained by each school’s athletics staff.

“It is a huge honor to even be mentioned with that award,” said Grayson through the school’s athletic media department. “It is obviously the most prestigious award in college football, and all sports. I’m humbled and very happy, and I know it all comes back to being a part of a winning team. They don’t give that award to players whose teams aren’t winning, so I’m very grateful to be surrounded by the teammates that I have. It is just very humbling.”

Grayson has led the 9-1 Rams to wins in eight consecutive games and 15 of their last 18 dating back to last season. He ranks third among all FBS quarterbacks in passing efficiency (171.6), is tied for fifth in passing touchdowns (26) and ranks sixth in passing yards (3,024). Holder of 12 Colorado State records, Grayson has become the school’s all-time leader this season in passing yards (8,208), completions (622), completion percentage (63.7%) and touchdown passes (58).
