Letter: Hope for best but prepare for worst

The biggest issue facing our upcoming state Legislature is funding education. With the class size Initiative 1351 passing and the Washington Supreme Court McCleary decision requiring additional school funding it would seem that education expertise would be essential up there in Olympia.

Here in the 17th District we had a choice. Incumbent Monica Stonier has spent her entire career in the classroom and in coaching teachers. One would think she would be an obvious choice to be re-elected. But no. With fewer than half of eligible voters participating, we elected her opponent, Lynda Wilson, whose entire campaign was to spout the usual Tea Party claptrap.

I am hoping for the best for our schools but I am not optimistic.
