Vancouver police offer holiday season safety tips

As colder weather and winter holidays approach, the Vancouver Police Department offers the following seasonal safety tips:

• When shopping crowded stores and malls, keep track of your cellphone, wallet and purchases.

• Never leave valuables in sight inside your vehicle. If you have to store them in the vehicle, put them in the trunk or a hidden storage area before getting to your destination. Thieves often wait to see where drivers store valuables, wait for the driver to leave and then break into the car to steal things.

• Check mail daily and immediately retrieve packages left at the doorstep, or arrange to pickup packages if you’ll be gone when they’re going to be delivered.

• Don’t leave your vehicle unattended while warming it up. Someone may steal it while you’re away.
