Camas Councilor Linda Dietzman announced Monday night that she will step down from her position about one year before the end of her term.

Dietzman, whose third term on the council is set to expire in December 2015, plans to resign at the end of January instead. After spending 11 years on the council, the 65-year-old councilor has become one of its longest-serving members.

But Dietzman said she wasn’t planning to run for re-election this time, so she decided to step down early to free up more personal time. After leaving, she plans to spend more time with her grandchildren and traveling.

Dietzman grew up in rural Clark County, and she’s lived in Camas for more than 20 years. In her time working for the city, Dietzman has served as a council liaison for a number of key areas of the city, including parks and recreation, the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce and the Community Center Development Committee.

The council will appoint a new member to fill Dietzman’s position for the rest of her term. Then, the seat will open again at the end of next year.
