Letter: There’s something we can do to help

The city of Vancouver has many homeless people. In May of 2014, 695 people were counted in shelters or out in the streets. People lose jobs, struggle with addictions, suffer with mental illness, and some are unable to get low-income housing. There isn’t just one thing we can do to help the homeless but we can try to help as much as we can.

People like Lucinda Ledgerwood, director of Live Love at Living Hope Church, provide the homeless with necessities and a place to sleep and eat. This is a ministry where they provide the homeless with food boxes, clothing, sleeping bags, backpacks, etc. They also help them with resources for housing, jobs and medical insurance. On Sundays and Wednesdays they serve hot meals, and on Sundays they provide a service to help their guests get to know the heart of God. They also offer an overnight shelter.

Not all of us have the time or money to volunteer and help the homeless but we can all treat them as we treat others, with love and respect; they are no different from us. A little love goes a long way.
