The fall sports season is over in Clark County.

For the first time since 2010, Clark County doesn’t have a team in the football semifinals.

So we get a week off before the full winter sports season starts on Dec. 1.

But there is still a lot to celebrate in Clark County this fall.

Columbia River might have enjoyed the best fall season of Clark County schools.

The Chieftains placed third in the state in both girls soccer and volleyball, advanced to the state quarterfinals in football and both cross country teams reached the state meet.

Camas had the best fall among 4A teams.

The Papermakers won the only athletic state championship by a local team this fall in winning the girls cross country title. Camas also placed fifth in volleyball, sixth in boys cross country, reached the state playoffs in football and won a league title in soccer.

In 2A, it was a toss-up between Hockinson and Ridgefield. But we’ll give the nod to the Hawks, who advanced to the state quarterfinals in football and soccer, reached state in girls cross country and garnered academic state titles in girls soccer and girls swimming.

In 1A, it was the La Center Wildcats.

La Center reached state in football, soccer, volleyball and both boys and girls cross country.

Congratulations to all.

Nike Borderclash

The best in high school cross country in Washington and Oregon met Sunday in Beaverton, Ore., for the Nike Borderclash.

And once again, Washington swept the event.

The Washington boys won 19-42. Skyview’s Chanse Gilbert was 27th in 14:21 and Camas’ Said Guermali was 51st in 14:48.

The Washington girls won 20-37. Camas had a trio of runners in the race: Emily Wilson was 11th in 16:30, Alissa Pudlitzke 13th in 16:34 and Emma Jenkins was 19th in 16:48.

Union’s Alexis Fuller was 21st in 16:50.

All-Region vote

The celebration of fall sports continues with The Columbian’s All-Region honors.

More than 1,500 votes were cast in the fan voting for the All-Region volleyball team. These votes will be combined with selections of the area coaches and The Columbian staff to create the All-Region team.

Voting for the All-Region girls soccer team begins Monday. And voting for football will start next week.

Keep an eye out for them.

All-league teams

We’ve been putting area all-league teams on our high school blogs over the past several week.

We will run the all-league first and second teams in print in Thursday’s print edition of The Columbian.

You can get your copy on Wednesday night.
