TACOMA — New York-based Union Bank is closing 20 former Frontier Bank branches in Washington state. The News Tribune reported that the bank operates 44 branches in Washington and plans to close 40 during next February and March.

Union Bank acquired Frontier Bank in 2010. It had earlier acquired Bank of California. The company says employees working at the branches being closed will be given an opportunity to apply for other jobs within the bank.
