SEATTLE — Police say a man had weapons including a handgun, knife, shotgun, semi-automatic rifle and powerful fireworks during a Seattle protest of the Missouri grand jury decision not to indict a police officer who fatally shot a black teenager.
The Seattle Times reports that 31-year-old Jeffrey Alan Acord was charged Wednesday in Municipal Court with possession of a concealed pistol without a permit, carrying a dangerous knife and illegal possession of fireworks. Bail was set at $10,000. It was not known whether he had a lawyer.
Police Chief Kathleen O’Toole says it’s not clear why the south King County man had the weapons at Monday’s protest. He was among five people arrested. A police report says officers found a loaded 9 mm handgun and a 7-inch fixed-blade knife on the man when they arrested him.
After obtaining a search warrant, O’Toole says officers found an AR-15 semi-automatic assault-style rifle, shotgun, fireworks and ammunition in his car.
