Train hits car on tracks; 2 badly hurt

HILLSBORO, Ore. — Two people in their 80s were seriously injured when their car was struck by a train Thursday in Washington County.

Hillsboro police told KGW-TV the driver of the car appeared to panic and stopped on the tracks.

The police said the safety arms were down, and the safety lights were flashing as the train approached at about 30 mph. It pushed the car about 50 yards.

A passenger, an 82-year-old woman, was hospitalized in critical condition. The police said an 85-year-old man was driving and taken to the hospital in serious condition.
