College notebook: Warner Pacific goalie Holterman garners weekly honor

Columbia River grad posted two shutout victories

Warner Pacific College senior goalkeeper Allie Holterman was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 22-28.

The Columbia River High School graduate posted a pair of shutout victories in conference play as the Knights defeated both Corban University on Thursday and Northwest Christian University on Saturday by 1-0 scores in home matches on Strasser Field at Delta Park in Portland.

Holterman, who played for two seasons at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, had nine total saves in the wins as she doubled her shutout total for the season.

Warner Pacific (5-5-1) opened at 2-0 in CCC play with the home sweep.

Golf: Concordia’s Alamillo garners CCC honors

Concordia University senior Madison Alamillo was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for Sept. 22-28.

The Battle Ground High School graduate claimed individual medalist honors at a tournament for the first time as a collegiate golfer last week, winning the Oregon Tech Invitational.

Alamillo shot 14-over

230 in three rounds of play at the Running Y Ranch near Klamath Falls, Ore., winning by six strokes as the Cavaliers dominated the team competition.

Soccer: Idaho’s Battan earns Big Sky weekly honor

Idaho sophomore forward Kavita Battan was named the women’s soccer co-offensive Big Sky Conference Player of the Week for Sept. 23-29.

The Hockinson High School gradaute scored game-winning goals as the Vandals defeated Northern Colorado 3-2 in their conference opener Friday and North Dakota 1-0 on Sunday.

“This weekend was definitely the best weekend Kavita has had this season,” head coach Derek Pittman told the UI website govandals.com. “I attribute that to her mentality, her effort and her willingness to do what we have been asking of her. I thought she did an exceptionally great job this weekend.”

Pittman continued: “Kavita put herself in the right positions, she made the runs anticipating where the ball was going to be and she was in the right place to finish them. She had the right composure to score both goals and helped our team to have success.”

College Sports Madness also named Battan its Big Sky Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for her exceptional performance during the past week’s -action. Battan shares the Big Sky honor with Montana freshman Hallie Winder.
