It’s October 6. And it may not seem like it, but it’s getting late in the fall prep sports season.

Boys golf teams in the 4A and 3A Greater St. Helens Leagues are wrapping up their regular seasons this week.

Tennis teams are getting really close to finishing their regular seasons.

Some cross country teams will run in their final league duals this week.

The volleyball and girls soccer teams in the 4A and 2A GSHL, as well as the Trico League, are beginning the second half of their league schedules.

And then there are the volleyball and soccer teams in the 3A GSHL.

It’s one of the quirks brought about by reclassification. The 3A GSHL is a four-team league, and volleyball and soccer teams opted for a six-game league season with each team playing the others twice.

They could have played three rounds of league play for a nine-game league season. But they’ve gone with a short, six-game slate. For volleyball, league play opens Tuesday with Prairie at Columbia River and Kelso at Fort Vancouver. The matchups are the same for girls soccer with the Prairie-River match being played at Kiggins Bowl.

TUESDAY: First place will be on the line when 2A GSHL girls soccer unbeatens meet as Hockinson travels to Ridgefield. In 1A Trico girls soccer, La Center (5-0) plays at King’s Way Christian (5-0). The 4A GSHL title in girls cross country could be decided when Camas runs against Union at Pacific Park.

THURSDAY: Fresh off its big win over Battle Ground, first-place Camas gets another test at Heritage in 4A GSHL volleyball. We got Thursday night football when Camas plays at Battle Ground. The crew from the Eli Sports Network will be broadcasting the game live at www.elisportsnetwork.com.

SATURDAY: Every area girls swimming team will be on hand at the Kelso Invitational.
