In this transition month between summer sun and winter rain, Share is hosting its seventh annual “Operation Sole Mates” socks and underwear drive. All donated clothing will be distributed to people living on the streets and in shelters via Share’s Outreach program.

“Homeless people put their socks through more wear and tear in a week than most socks see in a year,” said Katherine Garrett, director of Share House and Share Outreach. “So often, we see street homeless asking for spare change or food, but we feel this is a much more productive way to raise awareness, help address their needs and, hopefully, move them into shelter.”

New socks and underwear in all sizes for men, women and children are welcome. Donations can be dropped off throughout the month at the Share Fromhold Service Center, 2306 N.E. Andresen Road, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, or at one of the following Share shelter locations: Share House, 1115 W. 13th St.; Share Homestead, 4921 N.E. Hazel Dell Ave.; or the Share Orchards Inn, 5609 N.E. 102nd Ave.
